I made a sun map of my garden after reading your book and found it very revealing. It certainly explained why my tomatoes never ripened - I'd considered the corner they were in to be sunny because it was in the morning when I looked out at the garden drinking my coffee but it got shadier much earlier than I thought.
Thanks for sharing - I agree, what exactly “full sun” and “part shade” mean in numbers was tricky to come by for a long time. I’d never thought of the open allotment connection, but that seems plausible!

This is a good way to think about growing veggies. I make sure to put my chillies in the sunnier areas and my lettuces in the shade.
